Investigation into fatal plane crash in Chilliwack to begin
CHILLIWACK — Investigators from Canada’s Transportation Safety Board are expected to arrive in Chilliwack over the weekend to begin an examination of a fatal small airplane crash Friday (Oct. 6) that claimed the lives of three people.

VANCOUVER — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers stormed back to beat the B.C. Lions 34-26 in overtime on Friday, despite trailing for nearly the entire game.
Zach Collaros went 31 of 41, throwing 389 yards and two touchdowns for Winnipeg (12-4) in the close win.
Running back Brady Oliveira punched in the winning touchdown for the Blue Bombers in overtime, with receiver Kenny Lawler adding the two-point conversion.

EDMONTON — Evander Kane had a goal and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers closed out pre-season play with a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Friday.

CALGARY — Ivanie Blondin, Connor Howe, Isabelle Weidemann and Ted-Jan Bloemen, all Olympians, won gold on Friday at the Canadian long-track speedskating championships.
Blondin, from Ottawa, won the women’s 1,000-metre event in one minute 15.62 seconds.
Maddison Pearman of Ponoka, Alta., took silver (1:16.43), while Carolina Hiller of Prince George, B.C., raced a personal best time of 1:16.68 for bronze.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Ben Griffin joined a crowded pack of contenders in the Sanderson Farms Championship and then moved past them Friday afternoon with a 30 on the back nine, sending him to a 9-under 63 and a two-shot lead going into the weekend.
Griffin’s score was one shot better than his previous best in his rookie season, highlighted by a 65-foot eagle from the fringe on the par-5 14th hole at the Country Club of Jackson.

TORONTO — A 29-year-old woman who was among a group of women and children returned to Canada in April after years in a Syrian prison camp has been charged with a terrorism-related offence.

BURNABY, B.C. — Forward Precious Achiuwa will miss the Toronto Raptors’ first pre-season game due to injury.
Achiuwa strained his left groin during a training camp workout.

CHILLIWACK, B.C. — A small plane has crashed beside a hotel in Chilliwack, B.C.
Haylie Morris, who works nearby, was on a forklift at about 2:15 p.m. today when she says she watched the plane fly right in front of her.
