Right up until she was standing on the 18th green, making her final putt of the tournament, Brigitte Thibault didn’t know she was winning the Kathy Whitworth Championship.
The three-stroke win in Trophy Club, Texas, was the first victory of the 24-year-old Thibault’s professional career. Thibault said she had just kept her head down for the third and final round of the Women’s All Pro Tour season finale.

OTTAWA — The Liberals have launched a scholarship to commemorate those killed in the downing of Flight PS752 by Iranian officials in 2020.
The program will disburse 176 scholarships, one for each of the people who died when a Ukraine International Airlines flight was shot down outside Tehran.
The victims included 55 Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents, many of whom had significant academic accomplishments in Canada.

TORONTO — Chad Owens is going out as a Toronto Argonaut.
Toronto announced Wednesday the former star receiver/returner will sign a one-day contract with the CFL club to retire as a member of the Argos.

OTTAWA — A new Statistics Canada report says homicides of Indigenous women and girls are less likely to result in the most serious murder charges than cases in which victims were non-Indigenous.More than half of cases involving non-Indigenous women and girls between 2009 and 2021 resulted in charges of first-degree murder, but the offences of second-degree murder and manslaughter were more common when the victim was Indigenous.

VANCOUVER — The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver says a jump in new listings is helping to bring some balance back to the region’s housing market.

Quebec slow to improve public services for Indigenous people, says Ombudsman
MONTREAL — The Quebec government has failed to implement most of the recommendations from a landmark 2019 report that said Indigenous people suffered systemic discrimination in public services.
Québec Ombudsman Marc-André Dowd made the declaration today about the government’s progress on the report by retired judge Jacques Viens, who made 142 recommendations.

Accident at Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver kills heavy equipment operator
VANCOUVER — An industrial accident at the Cypress Mountain Resort in West Vancouver has killed one person.
West Vancouver police say it happened Monday.
They say the operator of a front-end loader was caught under the rig as it overturned.
