OTTAWA — Health Canada has authorized Pfizer-BioNTech’s updated COVID-19 vaccine for people six months and older.
The mRNA vaccine targets the Omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant that is circulating in Canada.
This is the second vaccine targeting XBB.1.5 that will be available in this country.
Earlier this month, Health Canada authorized Moderna’s updated mRNA vaccine.
Both Pfizer and Moderna’s shots are one-dose vaccines for people five years of age and older. -
Catholic Bishops say $30-million reconciliation fund on track to meet new deadline
OTTAWA — Canadian Catholic leaders say they are almost halfway to their fundraising goals for a reconciliation fund formed after the church failed to meet its previous financial commitments.
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops held its annual meeting in Toronto this week.

Judge grants injunction over Saskatchewan’s pronoun policy for schools
REGINA — A judge has granted an injunction to halt a Saskatchewan policy that requires parental consent when children under 16 want to go by different names and pronouns at school.

OTTAWA — The Military Police Complaints Commission is investigating the way officers handled allegations of sexual assault against a soldier who took his own life.
Military police charged Maj. Cristian Heistand, a flight instructor, with two counts of sexual assault in November 2021.

OTTAWA — The federal government is coping with apparent cyberattacks this week, as a hacker group in India claims it has sowed chaos in Ottawa.
The Canadian Armed Forces says that its website became unavailable to mobile users midday Wednesday, but was fixed within a few hours.
