GUADALAJARA, Mexico — Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Erin Routliffe of New Zealand advanced to the women’s doubles final of the Guadalajara Open with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over Mayar Sharif of Egypt and Jasmine Paolini of Italy on Friday.
Dabrowski and Routliffe, who was born in Auckland but grew up in Ontario and previously represented Canada, extended their winning streak to nine matches as they continue to build on the U.S. Open title they won earlier this month.

EDMONTON — Police in Edmonton have charged two more people following the killing of an eight-year-old girl whose remains were found on a First Nation south of the provincial capital.

Millions added to B.C. funding for rural, volunteer and First Nations firefighters
VANCOUVER — The British Columbia government is providing more money to rural, First Nations and volunteer fire departments across the province.
A statement from the Office of the Premier says the money will be used to help local fire departments upgrade equipment and training.

COQUITLAM, B.C. — British Columbia Premier David Eby says there’s been a critical incident involving RCMP in the Metro Vancouver suburb of Coquitlam.
A witness on the scene says she saw an officer with a bloody leg and a tourniquet above the wound.
Coquitlam Mounties announced shortly after 11 a.m. that an area several blocks long in a business and residential area of the city had been closed off due to an ongoing police incident.

OTTAWA — Canada is making a multi-year commitment to provide steady support to Ukraine, including hundreds of millions of dollars for new armoured vehicles.
The two countries have also signed a modernized trade deal as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visits the country for the first time since Russia’s full-scale assault of Ukraine began last year.
