NEW YORK — Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Erin Routliffe of New Zealand advanced to the U.S. Open women’s doubles quarterfinals on Monday.
The duo moved on by way of a walkover. They were supposed to play Czechia’s Barbora Strycova and Marketa Vondrousova in the round of 16.
Dabrowski and Routliffe were coming off a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Zhu Lin of China and Fang-Hsien Wu of Taiwan on Saturday.
They will next face Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que., and Taylor Town

NELSON, B.C. — A jury in a coroner’s inquest into the police killing of a British Columbia man eight years ago says the province and the RCMP should speed up the introduction of police body cameras.
The inquest was held to find the facts behind the fatal police shooting of 39-year-old Waylon Edey of Yahk, B.C., who died in January 2015 after a traffic stop in Castlegar.

TORONTO — The CFL has suspended Saskatchewan defensive end Pete Robertson for a game following his head butt of Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros during a game Sunday.
The CFL announced the suspension Monday, following the Roughriders’ 32-30 overtime home win over the Blue Bombers.

OTTAWA — Canada’s status within the Indo-Pacific region is set to get a boost as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations prepares to make Ottawa its latest strategic partner when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visits Indonesia.
The move by the organization is a symbolic gesture that recognizes Canada’s expanded presence in the region and reflects the progress being made on a Canada-ASEAN free-trade agreement.

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping will skip this week’s Group of 20 summit in India as bilateral relations remain icy and Premier Li Qiang will attend in his place, China’s Foreign Ministry said Monday.A one sentence notice on the ministry’s website says: “At the invitation of the government of the Republic of India, Premier of the State Council Li Qiang will attend the 18th G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi, India on September 9 and 10.”

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders recorded a 32-30 overtime victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday before a sellout Labour Day Classic crowd of 33,350 at Mosaic Stadium.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Chip Ganassi stopped Alex Palou before Sunday’s race at Portland International Raceway and encouraged his driver to use the race to close out the IndyCar championship.
Palou told the boss he planned to do it with a walk-off win.
