TORONTO — Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt threw eight shutout innings and Alejandro Kirk drove in three runs to help the Toronto Blue Jays to a 7-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
Bassitt allowed just three hits and a walk as the Blue Jays took the rubber game of the three-game series at Rogers Centre. He had three strikeouts over the 110-pitch outing.

OTTAWA — An Ottawa man who has been charged with terrorism offences for promoting a far-right group has been granted bail.
Patrick Gordon Macdonald, 26, was charged in July with participating in the activity of a terrorist group, facilitating terrorist activity and wilfully promoting hatred for a terrorist group.

Arrest made in cold-case sex assaults, suspect released by judge: Vancouver police
Vancouver police say they have solved a series of cold-case sexual assaults dating back 14 years, leading to the arrest of a suspect in Saskatchewan.
Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Wilson told a briefing that 45-year-old Arturo Garcia Gorjon has been linked to four “blitz-style” assaults in Vancouver from July 1, 2009, to Christmas Eve 2010.

VICTORIA — An audited public accounting of British Columbia’s financial records shows the province posted a surplus of more than $700 million in the 2022-2023 budget year.

Quebec Transport Minister Geneviève Guilbault is apologizing after photos emerged of her not wearing her seatbelt while on the road.

TORONTO — Head coach Sheldon Keefe has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Canadian Armed Forces doing away with mandatory duty to report policy
OTTAWA — The military’s chief of professional conduct and culture says the Canadian Armed Forces will end its “inflexible and inhuman” mandatory reporting policy.
Lt.-Gen. Jennie Carignan says members will still be able to report misconduct, but they will no longer face possible penalties for failing to report something they experience or witness.
