The 36-year-old from Ottawa, who turns 37 in October, became the third Canadian and 11th oldest stage winner at the Tour de France with his ninth-stage victory on July 9.
“It was one of the biggest goals of my career,” he said over a video conference from his residence in Andorra on Thursday. “T -
The wildland-urban interface: why wildfire fatalities seem so prevalent in the U.S.
WASHINGTON — The oceanfront home on Maui’s western shore sits unscathed, family car in the driveway, its pristine red roof and well-tended yard an oasis of hope on a bleak landscape of ash and destruction.
The most enduring image of Hawaii’s wildfire tragedy is, in some ways, symbolic of the modern-day challenge of climate change: ensuring humanity can still thrive in an indiscriminate and unpredictable natural world.
In other ways, however, it is simply not good en -
Toronto FC players focused on ending winless streak as coaching rumours swirl
Toronto FC midfielder Alonso Coello said his team has kept its focus on snapping their lengthy winless streak rather than reports that Canadian men’s national team John Herdman is in talks to take over the struggling Major League Soccer club.

TORONTO — Kurtis Rourke has secured family bragging rights.
The Ohio University quarterback was the top player listed Thursday in the CFL Scouting Bureau’s fall edition of the top-20 prospects for next year’s draft. OTTAWA — House leaders for the main federal parties have been working together this summer to make a public inquiry on foreign interference happen, as they put aside partisan jabs that dominated Parliament for much of the year.

Nagorno-Karabakh is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but it is mostly populated by Armenians, and neighbouring Armenia has fought for control of the region for decades.
Tensions rose in the area last fall when the region’s main access r -

Music Review: Big Thief’s Buck Meek delivers from high on the ear-friendly ‘Haunted Mountain’
Buck Meek, “Haunted Mountain” (4AD)
Buck Meek, the stellar guitarist of Big Thief, is out with his third studio album, “Haunted Mountain.” It is a lovely fusion of twang and rock with prime songwriting that works to define the art of caring.
Sure, this is largely love song territory for the troubadour. He sought a bit of solace and wrote the songs in the mountains of Portugal and the Swiss Alps. But it’s a deft examination of how the heart grows, and not a breezy tr -
