MONTREAL — New Montreal Alouettes signing Shawn Lemon is one team away from being a member of every CFL franchise, and he says he’s fine with it staying that way for a while.
The 34-year-old defensive lineman, who signed with Montreal on Monday, has played 135 career games with Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto and B.C., and got his first taste of the CFL on Winnipeg’s practice squad in 2011.

CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have signed 2023 first-round pick Samuel Honzek to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The deal announced Wednesday carries an average annual value of US$950,000 at the NHL level.
The Flames selected Honzek 16th overall at last month’s draft.
The six-foot-four, 195-pound winger from Trencin, Slovakia, had 23 goals and 56 points in 43 games with the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants last season.

Alberta government says clinic offering faster doctor access for a fee is an outlier
CALGARY — The Alberta government says a Calgary medical clinic charging its patients fees for faster access to a physician is an outlier and it will take action against any clinic that follows suit.
Alberta Health spokesman Scott Johnston says there are 13 clinics in the province that charge membership fees for medical services but they don’t offer faster access for services paid for by taxpayers.
Such non-insured services could include everything from chiropractic work to nutrition -

WINNIPEG — An Anishinaabe community in northwestern Ontario is suing the federal government and the City of Winnipeg, claiming it hasn’t been compensated for a diversion to supply Manitoba’s capitalwith clean water a century ago that resulted in it being cut off from road access.
Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, which sits on the Ontario-Manitoba boundary, filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the two levels of government in Ontario’s Kenora Superior Court of Justice.

TORONTO — Right-handed reliever Trent Thornton has been traded by the Toronto Blue Jays to the Seattle Mariners.
Infielder Mason McCoy was sent to Toronto in return.
McCoy was assigned to the Blue Jays triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, N.Y.
Thornton has appeared in four games for Toronto with a 1.69 earned-run average over 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. He’s appeared in 22 games for triple-A Buffalo.

VANCOUVER — British Columbia is launching a $10.5-million program to help small businesses recover costs due to crime and vandalism.
Economic Development Minister Brenda Bailey says the program will begin in the fall and is open to small businesses that suffered vandalism damage retroactive to Jan. 1 this year.
