Wildfires in British Columbia have prompted more than 70 current evacuation alerts or orders, with many clustered in the province’s central Interior.
The Cariboo Regional District has issued an order covering 38 parcels of land in a roughly 160-square- kilometre area around Anahim Peak, northeast of Bella Coola.
That’s on top of an order issued Friday spanning nearly 3,340 square kilometres in the Lhoosk’uz area, west of Quesnel, and several others in the region.

Canada sees 100,000 square kilometres burned this record-breaking wildfire season
OTTAWA — Canada’s record-breaking wildfire season has now seen 100,000 square kilometres of land scorched as blazes continue to burn out of control across the entire country.

Calgary Stampede says chuckwagon horse euthanized after suffering injury
CALGARY — A horse has been euthanized at the Calgary Stampede after suffering an injury during a chuckwagon race.
The Calgary Stampede says in an emailed statement that a horse on Kris Molle’s team sustained an injury during the seventh heat of the chuckwagon races on Friday.
The statement says that medical care was immediately provided and following an assessment, the veterinarian made the humane decision to euthanize the horse.
