OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will continue to strongly advocate that cluster bombs “should not be used,” after the United States announced it is sending the munitions to help Ukraine’s war effort against Russian aggressors.

YELLOWKNIFE — The Northwest Territories government says it plans to increase the minimum wage by almost 5.6 per cent to reflect an increase in the consumer price index.
The territory says its minimum hourly wage will increase from $15.20 to $16.05 beginning Sept. 1.
The Northwest Territories last increased its minimum wage by $1.74 in September 2021, when it had been unchanged since April 2018.

WINNIPEG — Dozens of protesters are continuing to block a Winnipeg landfill after a city-imposed deadline ordering them to leave passed.

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have signed a one-year affiliation contract with the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings.
It will mark the fourth time the K-Wings have acted as the Canucks’ secondary minor-league affiliate.

SURREY, B.C. — RCMP say a man is dead after he was found unresponsive in an SUV in a Surrey, B.C., alleyway, where officers were responding to reports of a shooting.
Surrey RCMP say in a statement the man was found in a white Ford Edge in the alleyway north of 96 Avenue and 130 Street around 5 p.m. on Sunday, and was later declared dead at a hospital.

No Quebec wildfires considered out of control for first time since end of May
MONTREAL — For the first time since the end of May Quebec’s forest fire prevention agency says there are no out-of-control wildfires in the province.
The agency, called SOPFEU, says there are currently 57 blazes in the southern half of the province, including 38 that are under control and 19 that are considered contained.
The agency considers a fire contained when it is no longer growing but could regain strength.

VANCOUVER — West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. has signed a deal to sell its unbleached softwood kraft pulp mill in Hinton, Alta., to Mondi Group, an integrated packaging and paper company.

CHILLIWACK — Nearly two dozen firefighters worked quickly to protect a home from major damage in an afternoon fire Sunday.
