MONTREAL — The Quebec coroner’s office is confirming the identity of the woman killed in a landslide in the province’s Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region last weekend.
Pascale Racine, 44, was one of two people who died last Saturday in Rivière-Éternité, Que., about 260 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

Indian authorities arrests 3 railway officials over the train crash that killed more than 290
NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s federal crime agency said Friday it has arrested three railway officials in connection with one of the country’s deadliest train accidents, which killed more than 290 people last month.
The arrested men have been charged with culpable homicide without murder and destruction of evidence, the Central Bureau of Investigation said in a statement. It identified them as two signal engineers and one technician, and said the investigation is ongoing.

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays recalled right-hander Alek Manoah from Double-A New Hampshire on Friday and placed reliever Jay Jackson on the paternity list.

NORTH SAANICH, B.C. — Island Health says a lack of staff has forced it to begin overnight closures of the emergency room at a small Victoria-area hospital.

WASHINGTON — America’s trade envoy is urging her Canadian counterpart to abandon plans for a digital services tax and to allow U.S. home shopping north of the border.

Tree planter airlifted to hospital after bear attack near Tumbler Ridge, B.C.
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — A tree planter has been attacked by a bear in northeastern British Columbia.
Few details have been released, but a statement from the Conservation Officer Service says it happened Thursday near Tumbler Ridge.
The statement says the victim has been airlifted to hospital in Prince George.
The service has not said if the attack involved a grizzly or a black bear.
It says four officers have been assigned to investigate what happened.
