Crosses from New Zealand shipwreck sent to Quebec in honour of 19th-century Patriot
MONTREAL — A pair of wooden crosses made from a shipwreck in New Zealand have been sent to Quebec to honour the 185-year-old wish of a francophone man who rebelled against British rule.
François-Xavier Prieur was one of dozens of Patriots who were exiled to Australia aboard the HMS Buffalo as punishment for their part in the 1837-1838 uprising in Lower Canada, now Quebec. He later wrote in his memoir of his desire that pieces of the ship be sent to his home as a reminder of what he -

Left-leaning Mexico seeks closer Canada ties in labour and business amid mining spat
OTTAWA — The Trudeau government is taking a mixed approach to Mexico charting its own path to economic growth, as a desire for more trade and better labour rights bumps up against mining reform and agriculture regulations that have riled Canadian firms.

U.S. border towns still wait on buyers from B.C., as Vancouver shopping buses vanish
VANCOUVER — Cross-border shopping buses filled with Chinese and Korean Canadian consumers were once ubiquitous outside Washington state malls, but they have all-but disappeared from the commercial landscape, dealing a heavy blow to border-town businesses.
The removal of COVID-19 restrictions at the border late last year has boosted the number of Canadians making land crossings to the United States, but consumers and tour operators say the pandemic may have altered people’s travel and -

Golden Knights push Panthers to edge of elimination with 3-2 win
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — It can be done. Such will be the thinking for the Florida Panthers for the next couple days, as they try to dig their way out of a 3-1 deficit in the Stanley Cup final.
And they’ll think that for good reason — because they’ve already done it once.
