Byelection dates for two B.C. ridings to be set today, premier says
VICTORIA — Premier David Eby says he plans to set the dates today for byelections in two vacant British Columbia ridings.
He says residents in Greater Victoria’s Langford-Juan de Fuca riding and those in the Vancouver-Mount Pleasant constituency are in urgent need of representation.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Quebec Remparts scored three goals in four-and-a-half minutes early in the second period to snap a 1-1 deadlock and then coasted to an 8-3 victory over the Kamloops Blazers in the first game of the 2023 Memorial Cup Championship tournament.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kevin Kiermaier and Bo Bichette homered in a three-run third, Kevin Gausman won for the first time in more than a month and the slumping Toronto Blue Jays beat the Minnesota Twins 3-1 on Friday night.
Toronto won for the second time in nine games. Gausman (3-3) allowed a run and struck out eight over 5 1/3 innings for his first victory since April 23. Jordan Romano worked the ninth for his 11th save.

Maltos lifts Alouettes to 22-21 win over Redblacks
OTTAWA — Jose Maltos had five field goals, including one from 42-yards out on the final play of the game, to give the Montreal Alouettes a 22-21 win over the Ottawa Redblacks in the pre-season opener for both CFL teams Friday.

VANCOUVER — A Vancouver man has died while trying to pursue his lifelong dream of climbing Mount Everest.
The University of British Columbia’s faculty of medicine says it is mourning the unexpected death of Dr. Pieter Swart, an anesthesiologist and associate professor at the school.

VANCOUVER — The federal government is set to begin accepting proposals to spend the remaining money in a multimillion-dollar fund aimed at fighting invasive species across Canada.
