OTTAWA — The federal government says it will invest $2.5 billion in new money to renew the Canadian Coast Guard’s fleet of small vessels.
The coast guard plans to acquire up to 61 small vessels, including 34 search-and-rescue lifeboats.

VANCOUVER — Five environmental groups have launched a combined legal challenge against the port expansion plan at Roberts Bank, south of Vancouver, that was approved by the federal government last month.
The coalition, which includes the David Suzuki Foundation, the Georgia Strait Alliance, the Raincoast Conservation Foundation and the Wilderness Committee, says in a statement that it has filed an application in Federal Court for judicial review of Terminal 2’s approval.

Quebec Premier François Legault says the province will require that the vast majority of economic immigrants to Quebec speak French before they arrive.

Quebec provincial police conduct raid in Mohawk community of Kanesatake
QUEBEC — Investigators with the Quebec provincial police’s financial crimes unit are conducting searches in a Mohawk community near Montreal.
The Mohawk Council of Kanesatake says provincial police are searching the band office and the health centre in connection with an investigation into the community’s COVID-19 task force.

Inspections to begin on First Nation due to wildfire in Northwest Territories
