VICTORIA — British Columbia Premier David Eby says he expects his government and Surrey’s mayor and council to work together to resolve the police service issue in the Metro Vancouver city.
Eby says he’s spoken twice with Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke since Friday when the government recommended the city proceed with its transition to the Surrey Police Service rather than return to the RCMP.

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Nikita Chibrikov to a three-year, entry-level contract worth US$925,000 a year at the NHL level.

BC Hockey League parting ways with Hockey Canada
CHILLIWACK — The B.C. Hockey League is breaking away from Hockey Canada.
Effective June 1, 2023, the BCHL and their member teams including the Chilliwack Chiefs, will allow their agreement with the sport’s nationwide governing body to expire and operate as an independent league.
Graham Fraser, chairman of the BCHL, said in a statement the move is designed to increase the eligible player pool for BCHL teams and provide a higher level of hockey for fans.

Avian flu identified in Fraser Valley poultry farm
VANCOUVER — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed it has discovered the presence of highly pathogenic avian flu, better known as H-5-N-1, at a commercial poultry operation in B-C.
