UAE spacecraft takes close-up photos of Mars’ little moon
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A spacecraft around Mars has sent back the most detailed photos yet of the red planet’s little moon.
The United Arab Emirates’ Amal spacecraft flew within 62 miles (100 kilometers) of Deimos last month and the close-up shots were released Monday. Amal — Arabic for Hope — got a two-for-one when Mars photobombed some of the images. It was the closest a spacecraft has been to Deimos in almost a half-century.

Iqaluit water treatment plant to return to service after more than a year
IQALUIT, Nunavut — The City of Iqaluit says its water treatment plant is to return to service Tuesday morning, more than a year after it was shut down due to contamination.
The plant was initially shut down in October 2021 after fuel was detected in the city’s water supply.

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, Que. — A 43-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman found at a home south of Montreal.

US facilitating land evacuation of private citizens in Sudan

REGINA — Mounties are scheduled to give an update Thursday about what happened during a deadly mass stabbing in Saskatchewan last year.
Eleven people were killed and 18 were injured on the James Smith Cree Nation and in the nearby village of Weldon on Sept. 4.

Mike Field has been appointed to the position after serving as interim director since December, replacing Amy Walsh.
A native of Truro, N.S., Field has more than two decades of experience in hockey governance in the province and has also held the interim executive director position in 2004 and 2018.
