A healthy Leon Draisaitl can add playoff wallop to Edmonton’s one-two punch
EDMONTON — Leon Draisaitl was a prolific, post-season playmaker for the Edmonton Oilers even with a high-ankle sprain less than a year ago.
If the big centre can stay healthy through the 2023 NHL playoffs, the No. 2 in Edmonton’s potent one-two punch can pack an even heftier wallop.
Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Draisaitl scored an astounding 116 goals and compiled 281 points between them, including a combined 53 power-play goals, during the regular season.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio grand jury declined to indict eight police officers who fired dozens of rounds in the shooting death last year of Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, the state’s attorney general announced Monday, saying the officers were under threat because Walker had fired a gunshot at them during a car and foot chase.

CF Montreal looks to break out of slump against Vaughan in Canadian Championship
MONTREAL — Amid a historically bad start to the season, CF Montreal turns to Wednesday’s game in the first round of the Canadian Championship as an opportunity to generate some momentum.
The first round of the tournament is usually an opportunity for Canada’s three Major League Soccer teams to rotate the squad and rest their starters, but that is not the case for Montreal, which faces off against the Ligue 1 Ontario-champion Vaughan Azzurri.
Montreal will be looking to impose i -

NDP, Bloc accuse Poilievre of threatening French, Quebec culture with stance on CBC
OTTAWA — Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says Pierre Poilievre’s criticisms of the CBC amount to an attack on Canadian culture by the Conservative leader — and Quebec and francophone culture, in particular.
Singh addressed the issue, speaking in French, after Twitter added a label to CBC’s main account on Sunday indicating the broadcaster was “government-funded media.”
That move prompted the corporation to announce today it was hitting pause on its use -

‘Be in the here and now’: Maple Leafs primed for playoff rematch with Lightning
TORONTO — Ryan O’Reilly could sense the pressure not long after setting foot in his new locker room.
A proud franchise blotted by a long list of playoff failures — and without a Stanley Cup since 1967 — recent Maple Leafs iterations have crumbled under the weight of expectation in this hockey-obsessed market.
O’Reilly, a Stanley Cup champion acquired from the St. Louis Blues in a February blockbuster trade, was part of a team that finally got over its championship h -
Senators GM Dorion sees a bright future in Ottawa — and wants to be part of it
OTTAWA — Pierre Dorion sees great things ahead for the Ottawa Senators, he just doesn’t know if he’ll be around to see them through.
The Senators general manager met with the media Monday morning and admitted he’s in a bit of a unique situation with new ownership set to take over the reins in the next couple months.
Dorion was named GM in April 2016 and the Senators have only made the playoffs only once under his guidance — during his first season. If he were to sta -

The sale of Teck to a foreign buyer would be a loss for Canada, critics say
VANCOUVER — Some industry watchers say a hostile takeover of Canada’s largest diversified mining company by a foreign entity would be bad news for the Canadian economy.
Swiss commodities giant Glencore is proposing to buy Vancouver-based mining company Teck Resources Ltd., an offer that Teck’s board has rejected.
Some analysts say such a transaction would mean a “hollowing out” of Canada’s mining industry, at a time when the mining sector could be poised for a -
