TORONTO — Connor McDavid experienced another sinking feeling — if only for a brief moment.
The superstar captain of the Edmonton Oilers had just been the victim of a friendly fire collision with teammate Derek Ryan late in Thursday’s victory over the Boston Bruins.
McDavid immediately grabbed at his left leg after crumpling to the ice as the franchise and fanbase held its collective breath, but got to the bench on his own before helping close out a gutsy, 3-2 statement win over

Relievers Thomas Hatch, Sem Robberse and Jimmy Robbins combined to scatter five hits over six innings, with Robbins picking up the save.
Wynton Bernard drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Rai -

Einarson set for long-awaited trip to Sweden seeking first world curling title
CALGARY — Kerri Einarson looked at Facebook on Friday and saw a memory flash on the screen from March 2020, before life as she knew it came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There she was standing in Winnipeg’s Fort Rouge Curling Club, preparing to embark for Sweden and her first women’s world curling championship.
Turns out her trip was delayed by three years.
“All of a sudden, it was cancelled,” Einarson said Friday after practice at the very same curling cl -
Toronto FC’s new kit draws wide range of reviews from players and supporters
TORONTO — Captain Michael Bradley will be wearing Toronto FC’s new home uniform when he leads the MLS team out Saturday for its home opener against the Columbus Crew.
And like many of the club’s supporters, at least judging from social media, Bradley is split on the new kit.
“The jersey itself I like a lot. I don’t like that it’s our home kit,” Bradley said after training Friday, echoing the view of some fans. “For me, our home kit should be all re -

The province says that from April 3, BC Public Service employees will no longer be required to provide proof of vaccination.
The Ministry of Finance says in a statement the decision to rescind the policy was made “based on the high level of vaccination among public-service employees and the current state of the pandemic.”

Toronto FC’s Jonathan Osorio now listed as a designated player, helping salary cap
TORONTO — Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio has joined Italian stars Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi as a designated player on Toronto FC’s books.
It’s purely an accounting move with nothing changing in the three-year contact, with an option for 2026, that Osorio signed in December. Making him a designated player gives TFC more room in its salary cap budget.
Under MLS rules, a DP aged at least 24 only counts for US$651,250 against the salary cap — regardless o -

Toronto facing injuries up front, chilly conditions for home opener against Columbus
Toronto FC will have to deal with a makeshift offence and chilly conditions for its home opener Saturday against the Columbus Crew.
Toronto (0-1-1) is short on strikers with Adama Diomande and Ayo Akinola both injured.
Diomande had to leave last weekend’s 1-1 tie in Atlanta in the 45th minute and Akinola, who replaced him, exited in the 73rd minute. Coach Bob Bradley said both players had their hamstrings tighten up.
“We have some decisions to make,” Bradley said Friday.
