LAKELAND, Fla. — The Toronto Blue Jays exploded for 13 runs in the fourth inning en route to an 18-5 dismantling of the Detroit Tigers in spring training baseball action on Saturday.
Second baseman Vinny Capra paced the offence with seven RBIs.
The game was tied 1-1 when Capra kicked off the fourth-inning onslaught with a ground-rule double that brought home three runs. He later added a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

EDMONTON — Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had two goals and two assists as the Edmonton Oilers won their second game in a row, defeating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 on Friday.
Kailer Yamamoto and Leon Draisaitl each had two goals and an assist and Connor McDavid had three assists for the Oilers (34-21-8) who have won four of their last six.

LONDON, Ont. — Defending champ Brad Gushue defeated British Columbia’s Jacques Gauthier 6-5 on Friday night in the opening draw at the Canadian men’s curling championship.

CHILLIWACK — The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said Friday afternoon (Mar. 3) that the Coquihalla Highway will remain closed between Hope and Merritt until at least Saturday afternoon due to what it calls “extreme weather conditions.”

RCMP officer accused of on-duty assault in Nunavut facing criminal charges
IQALUIT, Nunavut — Nunavut RCMP say an officer is facing three criminal charges after an alleged assault while he was on duty.

Host teams fall to Ireland in opening matches at Canada Sevens rugby tournament
VANCOUVER — It wasn’t the start the Canadian rugby teams wanted as both the men and women lost their opening matches to Ireland at the HSBC Canada Sevens tournament Friday at BC Place Stadium.
The men were trounced 35-5 while the women dropped their game 28-7.
The early games were played before stands full of screaming schoolchildren invited for the opening day of tournament, which ends Sunday.
The men controlled the ball early against Ireland but couldn’t advance up the field.
