Inquiry into Emergencies Act rules measures applied under law were mostly justified
OTTAWA, Kan. — When the federal government invoked the Emergencies Act in February 2022, it created several extraordinary powers hoping to clear protests entrenched in Ottawa’s downtown core and at border blockades spotted across four provinces.
Among the tasks assigned to the Public Order Emergencies Commission was to examine whether the specific powers the act granted were appropriate and effective.

OTTAWA — Thousands of Canadians are petitioning the federal Liberals to live up to their election promise to ban the live export of horses for slaughter.
Statistics Canada data show since the promise was made in 2021 more than 2,000 horses have been shipped from Canada to Japan where raw horse meat is a local delicacy.

Vancouver police arrest suspect after man shot several times in Downtown Eastside
VANCOUVER — Police in Vancouver say they are investigating a shooting in the Downtown Eastside that sent a man to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Vancouver Police Department says officers were working on East Hastings Street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the 31-year-old victim was repeatedly shot.
It says some officers began treating the injured man, while others tracked the suspect who tried to flee through Chinatown, but was arrested moments later.
