Montreal police say a woman is dead and a man was seriously injured in a stabbing in the city’s Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough.
Police say they received a 911 call for an armed assault inside an apartment building around 1:30 p.m. today.
Officers found a 23-year-old man who was transported to hospital with stab wounds to his upper body, but doctors do not fear for his life.
A 26-year-old woman was arrested at the scene.

OTTAWA — Federal Sport Minister Pascale St-Onge is calling on her provincial and territorial counterparts to establish independent bodies to handle harassment complaints from athletes by the end of this year.

VANCOUVER — Elias Pettersson put up five points and hit a career milestone Saturday, propelling the Vancouver Canucks to a 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Surrey budget proposes 9.5% property tax increase for policing transition costs
SURREY, B.C. — The City of Surrey has released its draft five-year budget, allocating more than half of the property tax increases for 2023 to cover the costs associated with the police transition.
It says in a news release that the 2023 draft operating budget was created without a decision on policing in Surrey, but relies on the presumption it will retain the RCMP as the police of jurisdiction.

Chinese consulate-general says report could damage China’s relationship with Canada
VANCOUVER — The Chinese consulate-general in Vancouver has called a newspaper report that cited Canadian intelligence documents and described alleged efforts to oust candidates seen as unfriendly to Beijing, “smearing and discrediting” to China.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville defeated Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones 11-8 at the Canadian women’s curling championship Saturday.
McCarville was a finalist in last year’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ont., where her team lost to Kerri Einarson in the championship game.
