HALIFAX — A jury is in its third day of deliberations today in the trial of a former Halifax medical student charged with first-degree murder in the 2015 shooting death of a fellow student.
During the trial, William Sandeson told Nova Scotia Supreme Court that he killed Dalhousie University physics student Taylor Samson in self-defence during a drug deal.
This was the second time the 30-year-old was put on trial for the Aug. 15, 2015 killing.
He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2017 -

Christian Atsu, the Ghana international forward who played for Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle, has died in the earthquake in Turkey. He was 31.
Search teams recovered Atsu’s body in the ruins of a luxury 12-story building where he had been living in the city of Antakya, Hatay province, his manager said Saturday.

Canadian skier St-Germain beats Shiffrin to slalom gold
MERIBEL, France (AP) — Canadian skier Laurence St-Germain won gold in the women’s slalom at the world championships Saturday and Mikaela Shiffrin took silver.
The American skier led after the first run but finished 0.57 seconds behind St-Germain after the final run.
Lena Duerr of Germany was 0.69 behind and won bronze.
Shiffrin won gold in the giant slalom Thursday and silver in the super-G last week.

OTTAWA — A new report from the federal spy watchdog says the Canadian Security Intelligence Service failed to adequately consider the potentially serious adverse effects on people and their families when using its powers to disrupt potential threats.
The National Security and Intelligence Review Agency report also finds the spy service takes an “overly narrow” approach when determining whether a judicial warrant is required for a particular threat disruption measure.
