VANCOUVER — Canadian photojournalist Amber Bracken and news organization the Narwhal have filed a lawsuit against the RCMP, claiming Bracken was wrongfully arrested and detained for three nights while reporting on a British Columbia pipeline dispute.

Federal justice minister orders appeal for Manitoba man in murder case
WINNIPEG — A Manitoba man who spent more than two decades behind bars is getting a new chance to overturn his murder convictions.
Federal Justice Minister David Lametti has referred the case of Robert Sanderson to the Manitoba Court of Appeal for a new hearing, saying he has concluded there was likely a miscarriage of justice.
Sanderson was found guilty in 1997 of three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years.

MONTREAL — Billy Two Rivers, a retired Mohawk wrestler, politician and activist, has died at 87.
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake announced his death in a statement published today.
Two Rivers rose to fame as a wrestler in the 1950s, and spent nearly a quarter of a century in the ring before he turned to politics.
He was first elected to Kahnawake council in 1978 and served 10 consecutive terms, where the council said he was an influential leader during the Oka crisis of 1990.

QUEBEC — Former Quebec cabinet minister Nadine Girault has died at the age of 63.
Premier François Legault confirmed her death on social media, paying tribute to a “passionate, determined and endearing woman.”

Two people in serious condition after Ottawa gas explosion: paramedics
OTTAWA — Two people have been taken to hospital in serious but stable condition after a blast destroyed multiple homes in an east Ottawa suburb.
Reid Purdy of the Ottawa Paramedic Service says the two had to be extricated after the explosion in Orleans, while three other people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
