NELSON, B.C. — The British Columbia constable who died in an avalanche last week has been posthumously promoted to detective for his dedication as an officer and commitment to improving his skills in the department.
Nelson Police Service Chief Const. Donovan Fisher announced Wade Tittemore’s promotion at his funeral service today, saying they had already planned to move the constable up to their general investigation section before he died.

Quebec’s minimum wage is set to rise by one dollar to $15.25 as of May 1.
Labour Minister Jean Boulet announced the increase in Quebec City, saying it will benefit about 298,900 workers, including 164,100 women.
The increase from the current $14.25 wage is the largest percentage increase in the province’s minimum wage since 1995.

INUVIK, N.W.T. — The federal and Northwest Territories governments are together spending $14 million toward the rehabilitation of the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway.
They say work on the 137-kilometre highway is to include raising low-profile embankment areas, improving drainage and installing guardrails.
The highway between Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk opened in November 2017.

OTTAWA — Statistics Canada reports that visible minorities are generally more likely than their white counterparts to earn a university degree but less likely to find a job that pays as well.
The findings published today based on data from the 2021 and 2016 censuses show that two years after graduating, visible minorities reported lower employment earnings and lower rates of unionization and pension plan coverage.

Polar bear attack victims young mother and 1-year-old son
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 24-year-old woman and her 1-year-old son were identified Wednesday as the victim of a fatal polar bear attack in an isolated Alaska Native village.
Summer Myomick of Saint Michael and her son, Clyde Ongtowasruk, were killed in the attack, Alaska State Troopers said in a statement.
