ÖSTERSUND, Sweden — Canada saved its most dominant effort for last.
Caitlin Kraemer led the way with four goals as Canada routed Sweden 10-0 to claim its second consecutive gold medal at the women’s world under-18 hockey championship on Sunday.
The performance catapulted Kraemer atop the leaderboard for goals scored in the tournament. She finished the competition with 10 goals in five games.

CAMROSE, Alta. — Canada’s Brendan Bottcher earned a 5-3 victory over Sweden’s Niklas Edin to claim the Grand Slam of Curling’s Canadian Open title on Sunday.
After falling behind 2-1, Bottcher scored in three consecutive ends, including two in the third, to take a 5-2 advantage.
After a scoreless sixth end, Edin put a single on the board before conceding after the seventh.
The two were the lone undefeated rinks entering the final.

Avian flu identified in two more Fraser Valley poultry farms
CHILLIWACK — Another two Fraser Valley farms have been struck with the highly contagious avian flu.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the virus was confirmed this week on commercial poultry farms in Abbotsford and Chilliwack.
While the virus affects birds, there is no evidence it can be passed to humans who consume poultry products.
The agency’s website shows the number of active infected premises in the province as of Wednesday was 72. -

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays will be in search of a new bullpen coach.
The team announced Sunday that Matt Buschmann has opted to leave the organization to pursue other opportunities.
Toronto also said it will announce its complete coaching staff in the coming weeks.
The 38-year-old Buschmann joined the Blue Jays in 2018 and also served as the director of pitching development since 2020.

VERNON — Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) responded to a call to rescue two snow bikers who had a mechanical breakdown on Park Mountain in the Lumby area of the North Okanagan Saturday (Jan. 14).
