VANCOUVER — Teck Resources Limited says it has reached a deal to sell its closed Quintette steelmaking coal mine in northeast British Columbia to Conuma Resources Ltd.
Teck says Conuma Resources will pay $120 million in cash for the mine, plus an ongoing 25 per cent net profits interest royalty payable after Conuma recovers its investment in Quintette.
The Quintette mine is located near Tumbler Ridge, B.C. and was in operation for 18 years, until Teck closed the mine in 2000.

B.C. universities to receive $4.3 million for innovation research funding: minister
VANCOUVER — Four British Columbia universities will receive $4.3 million from a government research and innovation program to help fund projects in the fields of health, technology and natural resources.
Jobs Minister Brenda Bailey says the University of B.C., Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria and Vancouver Island University will receive the funding, with the bulk going to projects at the Vancouver and Okanagan UBC campuses.

Libyan court sentences 17 former IS members to death
BENGHAZI, Libya (AP) — A Libyan court sentenced 17 former members of the Islamic State group to death, a statement from the country’s Tripoli-based top prosecutor said on Monday.

Toronto FC bolsters backline by signing veteran free agent centre back Matt Hedges
Toronto FC has bolstered its defence by signing free agent Matt Hedges to a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old spent the past 11 seasons with FC Dallas, serving as captain the last eight years.
The six-foot-four centre back made 349 appearances in all competitions for Dallas, which in 2014 made him became the youngest captain in franchise history.

Four runaway cows in Quebec caught in covert operation and returned to thankful owner
QUEBEC — An official with Quebec’s farmers union says it took a covert operation and the help of fresh snow to round up four cows from a herd of cattle that have been on the loose for months in central Quebec.

Mark Winokur steps aside as Tim Matthews takes over as GM of the Toronto Arrows
TORONTO — Mark Winokur, who has headed up the Toronto Arrows since their inception in 2017, has stepped down as the Major League Rugby’s team’s chief operating officer and general manager.
Tim Matthews took over Winokur’s duties in the role of vice-president and GM on Monday. Winokur will stay on as a senior adviser and report to club president Bill Webb, the team said.

OTTAWA — Canadian taxpayers spent at least $1 million hosting King Charles III, who was then Prince of Wales, when he visited Canada earlier this year.
The RCMP provided a breakdown of the nearly $450,000 in costs it incurred for the three-day visit this past May by Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, who was then Duchess of Cornwall.

TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Dryden Hunt from the Colorado Avalanche for fellow forward Denis Malgin, the club announced Monday.

World archery championship in 2024 awarded to Lac La Biche, Alta.
Lac La Biche, Alta., has been chosen to host the 2024 world archery field championship by the world’s governing body of the sport.
