VANCOUVER — British Columbia and the City of Vancouver are teaming up to build 90 modular housing units with round-the-clock supports for people experiencing homelessness in the Downtown Eastside.
Premier David Eby says the temporary homes will serve as a “bridge” to health supports and more permanent, stable housing.
A statement from the ministry says the units will be in two separate locations near the Science World and Olympic Village SkyTrain stations and are set to open in

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is beefing up Canada’s embassy staffing in Haiti to work closer with security officials.
Trudeau announced that change after a high-level meeting on Tuesday with ministers and bureaucrats, who were joined by Canada’s UN ambassador Bob Rae.

AMBRÌ, Switzerland — Forward Alex Formenton has signed a one-year contract with HC Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss League after the restricted free agent failed to sign a new deal with the Ottawa Senators.
Formenton is ineligible to play in the NHL this year after the Dec. 1 deadline for signing RFAs passed without him agreeing to a contract with the Senators.

OTTAWA — Canada’s chief science adviser is encouraging the government to develop a list of criteria to diagnose long-COVID and guidelines for doctors to treat it.
Mona Nemer released the recommendations today from a task force that was established in the summer to respond to post-COVID-19 condition, or long-COVID.

Quebec COVID-19 hospitalizations top 2,000, highest level since October
MONTREAL — Quebec’s Health Department says there are more than 2,000 hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 across the province, the highest number since Oct. 19.
Officials say 2,081 people are in hospital with the disease, a rise of 60 from the day before, after 207 people in the past 24 hours were admitted and 147 discharged.

87-year-old identified as Montreal driver who hit baby in carriage without stopping
Montreal police have identified an 87-year-old man who they say was behind the wheel of a vehicle that hit a baby stroller last month and drove off.
Police had asked for the public’s help to find the driver, who was recorded hitting a stroller that was being pushed along a Montreal intersection by an Orthodox Jewish woman.
