CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP on Monday (Dec. 12) announced the arrest of a male and female in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Chilliwack RCMP Drug Section that resulted in the seizure of cocaine and fentanyl.As part of an ongoing investigation targeting a criminal organization, the Chilliwack Drug Section had been investigating persons suspected of supplying street level drug traffickers, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk said.

OTTAWA — Newly released statistics show violent crime involving firearms dropped five per cent in Canada between 2020 and 2021.
According to Statistics Canada, violent crime in general went up four per cent, but a decrease in firearm-related crime in urban areas, including Toronto, led to the drop in violent crime with guns.
In Toronto, the rate of firearm-related crime was 22 per cent lower in 2021 than the year prior.

NEW YORK — Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren, Buffalo Sabres centre Tage Thompson and Toronto Maple Leafs right-winger William Nylander have been named the NHL’s three stars of the week.

Hockey Canada releases slate of candidates to form new board of directors
CALGARY — Hockey Canada has named its slate of candidates to fill the nine vacant positions on its board of directors on a one-year term.
The organization’s provincial and territorial members will hold a vote Saturday on whether to accept or reject the entire slate, which includes five women and four men.

Calgary Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson is taking over as general manager of the CFL team, while John Hufnagel will continue as team president.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian soccer great Pelé is doing better after having been hospitalized to treat a respiratory infection aggravated by COVID-19, doctors at the Albert Einstein hospital said Monday.
Pelé has been in hospital since Nov. 29 and doctors said they still don’t know when he will be discharged from hospital.
He is “conscious and has stable vital signs,” a statement from the hospital said.
