OTTAWA — The federal government says it is looking at helping to secure the release of 19 Canadian women and children being held in northeastern Syria.
The move comes just before supporters of the six women and 13 children get set to argue in Federal Court that the Liberal government’s long-standing refusal to repatriate them — as well as several Canadian men — amounts to a breach of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Redblacks officially name Bob Dyce as third head coach in franchise history
OTTAWA — Bob Dyce will return at the helm of Ottawa Redblacks next season after the CFL club officially named him as the third head coach in franchise history.
The 56-year-old Winnipeg native took over coaching duties last season after Paul LaPolice was fired following a 34-19 loss to the B.C. Lions. That dropped Ottawa’s record to 3-11.

Inuit leader says he can’t support bill creating national reconciliation council
OTTAWA — The president of a national Inuit organization says he cannot support federal legislation to create a national reconciliation council.
The legislation which will create a board of directors to oversee Ottawa’s implementation of the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

MONTREAL — An Ottawa woman says her experience of trying to report a sexual assault that happened in another province led to a “convoluted” back-and-forth between police forces that has made her reconsider whether she wants to come forward at all.

REGINA — Canadian defensive back Jordan Beaulieu signed a one-year contract extension with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday.
The five-foot-11 Beaulieu first signed with Saskatchewan in July and played in 10 games, making four defensive tackles and six special teams tackles.
