LAKE LOUISE, Alaska — Austria’s Nina Ortlieb posted the fastest time Tuesday in the first downhill training run ahead of a women’s World Cup alpine skiing stop this week at Lake Louise, Alta.
Ortlieb finished in one minute 50.27 seconds. She was followed by Slovenia’s Ilka Stuhec and Switzerland’s Corinne Suter, who both posted a time of 1:51.21.
Marie-Michèle Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., was the top Canadian in 10th with a time of 1:51.99.

MONTREAL — Quebec’s highest court has ordered a new trial for a Quebec man convicted in 2017 of stabbing to death a supermarket clerk.
The Court of Appeal ruled Monday that the trial judge’s final instructions to jurors were confusing and complicated.
The appeal court overturned Randy Tshilumba’s conviction and ordered a new trial.

Thousands of plants, animals at risk of extinction in Canada: wild species report
OTTAWA — A new report assessing the status of wild species in Canada says more than 2,200 plants, animals, fish and other wildlife are at risk of dying out.
The latest Canadian Endangered Species Conservation Council assessment says another 135 species are already extinct in Canada.
That includes seven that have never been found anywhere else so they’re likely gone from the planet completely.
The council releases a new wild species update every five years.

WINNIPEG — All-star linebacker Adam Bighill has signed a two-year contract extension with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The 34-year-old Bighill was scheduled to become a free agent in February 2023.
