WINNIPEG — Brady Oliveira is ready to be in the playoff spotlight.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers third-year running back will make his first post-season start at that position when the team hosts the B.C. Lions in Sunday’s CFL West Division final at IG Field.
The opportunity to do that in his hometown in front of family, friends and fans is something he relishes.
“This is meaningful football and this is when you want to play,” Oliveira said Friday after Winnipeg’s close

TORONTO — It’s the lone accomplishment still missing from Brandon Banks’ football resume.
On Sunday, the veteran receiver will look to help Toronto defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division final. The Argonauts would advance to their first Grey Cup game since 2017 with a victory, but also move Banks a step closer to his first CFL championship.

NHL, NHLPA say World Cup of Hockey tournament will not return in 2014
TORONTO — The World Cup of Hockey will not be returning in 2024.
The NHL and NHL Players’ Association said in a joint statement Friday “the current environment it is not feasible” to hold the World Cup, but did not elaborate further.
The organizations were working on a plan to hold the tournament in February 2024.
The release said the two sides will continue to plan for the tournament’s return, hopefully in February 2025.

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, Que. — A junior college south of Montreal is under lockdown as local police carry out an operation.
Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is ordering students and staff to barricade themselves into closed rooms and to keep the lights off.
The college says the orders came at the request of the police force in the city of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, located about 40 kilometres south of Montreal.

TORONTO — Just like the teams they follow, radio broadcast crews around the NHL and NBA are essentially back to normal after a couple years of pandemic-related challenges.

OTTAWA — Canada’s carbon dioxide emissions crept back up in 2021 after falling sharply during the first year of COVID-19, and experts believe they will go up even further this year as the return to normal has accelerated.
