TORONTO — Veteran midfielder Jonathan Osorio finally was able to detail what has kept him sidelined for all but 18 minutes of Toronto FC’s last seven games of the season.
“The diagnosis is post-concussion syndrome,” he said.
Previously Osorio had cited a “neurological dysfunction” arising from an elbow to the head in a July 13 loss at Chicago. Reporters had asked the club for a more detailed medical report, but that was not forthcoming.

OTTAWA — A new poll suggests Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have gained back some support after the Conservatives enjoyed a surge when Pierre Poilievre became leader.
The data released today by Leger is based on an online survey it did last weekend with around 1,500 Canadians.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former NBA player Ben Gordon is facing assault charges for allegedly punching his son at a New York airport.
The alleged assault occurred Monday evening at LaGuardia Airport. Jury indicates verdict reached in Alex Jones’ trial
WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — Jurors indicated Wednesday they have reached a verdict in conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ Connecticut defamation trial.
Their decision was expected to be announced shortly.

Deaths of homeless people in B.C. rose by 75% in 2021: coroner
VANCOUVER — The BC Coroners Service says deaths of homeless people in the province jumped 75 per cent in 2021 compared with the year before.
A preliminary report released by the service shows there were 247 deaths of people experiencing homelessness last year.
Chief coroner Lisa Lapointe says many homeless people are facing significant health concerns, including physical disabilities, mental-health challenges and substance-use issues.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has no timeline for when Canadian aid groups will be able to respond to a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Aid groups say Canadian officials have warned them that buying supplies or paying a driver to deliver food in Afghanistan would incur taxes for the Taliban, which could contravene anti-terrorism laws.

MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police say they’ve made an arrest in the homicide of a junior college student 22 years ago.
Guylaine Potvin was found dead in her apartment in Jonquière, Que., about 215 kilometres north of Quebec City, on April 28, 2000.

Quebec COVID-19 hospitalizations rise above 2,000, health minister to hold briefing
MONTREAL — The number of hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 in Quebec has risen above 2,000 for the first time since mid-August.
The Health Department is reporting a rise of 207 COVID-19 hospitalizations from the prior day, for a total of 2,030, including 595 people who are in hospital because of the disease.
It’s the highest number of people in hospital with the disease in Quebec since Aug. 10.
