OTTAWA — Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says she will release Canada’s long-delayed Indo-Pacific strategy this year.
She says the strategy will be shaped by a major meeting the Chinese government is holding in two weeks.
The strategy will include co-operation on climate change, she said in an interview with the Atlantic Council think tank in Washington, D.C.
Joly also revealed she will visit Peru next week for the Organization of American States summit.

‘We need to win’: Vancouver Whitecaps look to contain Austin FC in home finale
VANCOUVER — If you squint really, really hard, you can still see a possible path to the playoffs for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The club needs a lot of results to go its way, however, starting with a win over visiting Austin FC on Saturday.
“There’s a little bit of fire and we mentioned that,” head coach Vanni Sartini said after training Friday. “We know that it’s not only up to us, but if we want to keep that little flame alive, we need to win.”&nbs -

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Russia vetoed a U.N. resolution Friday that would have condemned its referendums in four Ukrainian regions as illegal, declared them invalid and urged all countries not to recognize any annexation of the territory claimed by Moscow.
The vote in the 15-member Security Council was 10-1 with China, India, Brazil and Gabon abstaining.

Joly, Blinken respond to Putin’s ‘political theatre’ with even more Russian sanctions
WASHINGTON — Vladimir Putin’s claim to parts of Ukraine is little more than “political theatre” with “no legitimacy,” Canada and the United States declared Friday, and should have no impact on how best to deploy military aid from the West.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly joined U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken for meetings in Washington, D.C., on the very day the Russian president claimed he was legally entitled to annex four of Ukrain -

Edmonton Elks look to avoid setting CFL futility record against visiting Alouettes
