COQUITLAM, B.C. — Coquitlam RCMP say a British Columbia man who was on the run, allegedly trying to evade sentencing for a separate crime, is now back in custody.
Police say members of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team arrested 25-year-old Arjun Purewal on Tuesday at a Surrey home as they followed leads related to a separate murder in Richmond.

MONTREAL — Regional health authorities say a dangerous fungus known for its resistance to treatment has been detected at a hospital in Longueuil on Montreal’s South Shore.
Officials at Hôpital Pierre-Boucher say two cases of patients carrying Candida auris have been identified at the hospital since Sept. 8.

Hockey Canada has revealed that over 65 per cent of player insurance fees go toward the organization’s National Equity Fund.

OTTAWA — The parliamentary budget officer estimates proposed new federal taxes on some financial institutions could generate $5.3 billion over the next five years.
