OTTAWA — The Liberals launched the fall sitting of Parliament Tuesday by tabling two new bills with more than $4.5 billion in spending they hope will ease the rising cost of living for modest-income Canadians.
Here are five things to know about the government’s new affordability plan:
1. The Liberals hope to double GST credits

Saskatchewan Appeal Court removes injunction, allows Broncos lawsuit to proceed
REGINA — The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal has set aside a temporary injunction that halted a lawsuit filed by some parents of those who died in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
Sixteen people were killed and 13 were injured when an inexperienced truck driver went through a stop sign and into the path of the junior hockey team’s bus at a rural intersection near Tisdale, Sask., on April 6, 2018.

As wildfire risk fades, the last remaining campfire ban is lifted in B.C.
VANCOUVER — Campfires are now permitted in all six of British Columbia’s fire centres, as the only remaining campfire ban is lifted across the Coastal Fire Centre.
However, bans still apply to any fires other than campfires in all but the Northwest Fire Centre, where unrestricted burning of large piles of material is allowed.

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche are making Nathan MacKinnon the highest-paid player in the NHL’s salary cap era.

Amber Alert cancelled for missing Vancouver child, found in Alberta
VANCOUVER — An Amber Alert has been cancelled for the child who authorities say was taken from BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver on Monday.
A statement from Vancouver police says the three-year-old and his mother were found near Calgary early Tuesday.
Police say the boy is now receiving care and his mother has been arrested.

VANCOUVER — Canfor Corp. is temporarily cutting production in British Columbia due to what it says are challenging market conditions.The lumber producer says it is taking a two-week curtailment starting Sept. 26 at the majority of its solid wood facilities in B.C.
Production will resume with reduced operating schedules until the end of the year.
