Aritzia Q1 profit surges 86 per cent to $33.3 million on big boost in revenue
VANCOUVER — Clothing retailer Aritzia Inc. put together another attractive quarter as net profits soared 86 per cent on a big jump in revenues.
The Vancouver-based company says it earned $33.3 million or 29 cents per diluted share in the first quarter, up from $17.9 million or 16 cents per share a year earlier.
Excluding one-time items, adjusted net income was $40.9 million or 35 cents per share, compared with $21.7 million or 19 cents per share in the prior year.

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers say assistant coaches Dave Manson and Glen Gulutzan will return next season as the NHL team shored up its hockey operations staff on Thursday.

Wayne Gretzky becomes a minority owner with OHL’s Niagara IceDogs
SAINT CATHARINES, Ont. — Wayne Gretzky has become a minority owner in the Ontario Hockey League’s Niagara IceDogs.
The transfer of the club to majority owner Darren DeDobbelaer was announced Thursday by the league.
Gretzky played for the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds in 1977-78 before embarking on his Hall of Fame NHL career.
The 61-year-old, who retired in 1999, holds the NHL records for most career goals and assists.

Driver who killed woman and three daughters seeks to appeal conviction, sentence
A driver who struck and killed a woman and her three young daughters in Brampton, Ont., two years ago is challenging his conviction on drug-impaired driving charges as well as his sentence.
In a notice of appeal filed last month, Brady Robertson’s lawyer alleges the trial judge was wrong to uphold the constitutionality of Canada’s law setting out a legal limit for THC blood concentration when driving.

TORONTO — Swimmer Kayla Sanchez, a relay Olympic medallist for Canada, has switched countries to represent the Philippines.
The 21-year-old swam the leadoff leg for Canada in a silver-medal effort last summer in Tokyo in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay.

UK media: Prime Minister Boris Johnson agrees to step down
LONDON (AP) — British media say Prime Minister Boris Johnson has agreed to resign, ending an unprecedented political crisis over his future.
Johnson had rebuffed calls by his Cabinet to step down in the wake of ethics scandals. He gave in after more than 40 ministers quit his government and told him to go.
It was not immediately clear Thursday whether Johnson would stay in office while the Conservative Party chooses a new leader, who will replace him as prime minister.
