Researchers see little evidence that more white sharks prowling North Atlantic
HALIFAX — A new study of the distribution of the endangered great white shark in Canadian waters says an underwater detection network suggests the population remains stable but is not growing.
That runs counter to worries the ocean’s greatest predators are increasingly prowling the region — perceptions fuelled by a suspected attack last August on a woman in the waters off Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island and cellphone videos the same month depicting a shark chewing a seal -

Two of the 30-plus players in attendance raised their hands.
This week’s inaugural Globl Jam tournament isn’t just an opportunity to bridge the gap in Canada’s national program between the youth and senior squads, but a rare chance for the country’s most talented young players to don the Maple Leaf at home.

VANCOUVER — The Crown is asking for a jail term for the former clerk of British Columbia’s legislature who was found guilty of fraud and breach of trust over expenses he claimed.

Canada Day protests lacked convoy’s ‘perfect storm of amplification,’ expert says
OTTAWA — The protests staged in Ottawa over the weekend that caused only minimal disruptions were a far cry from the “Freedom Convoy” demonstrations that occupied downtown streets for three weeks earlier this year.
While the initial protests saw vehicles blockading streets, the installation of a speaker’s platform and a hot tub on Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill, last weekend’s protests saw measures like security screenings to visit the Hill and making -
