    Zoo animals abound at this year’s Story Walk in Barry’s Bay 
    According to Library CEO Natalie Barrington, every summer Barry’s Bay looks forward to Tasha's Story Walk, a story written just for the Madawaska Valley Library.   
    Tasha Rankin is a local youth who writes the story, which is then placed on boards outside. Participants walk along, reading as they go. (Many in the area might also know Tasha’s mom, much-loved local vet Dr. Anne).

    Local band Near The Open hits the stage in Millenium Park on Wednesday
    Near the Open will be performing in Millenium Park on Wednesday July 31, as part of the Mineral Capital Concert series. The trio is a folk/rock band formed by local brothers in 2022.
    According to the band they play a wide variety of covers from Coldplay to Tom Petty as well as a few of their own original songs.
    Near The Open will be performing as a full band on Wednesday, combining both electric guitar and banjo.

    Hastings Highlands introduces Fee Waiver Policy  
    At a July 17 council meeting, The Municipality of Hastings Highlands voted to introduce a fee waiver policy. 
    The policy will recognize not-for-profit community organizations and provide them an opportunity to apply for free usage of municipally owned community centres and facilities. 
    Facilities that can be rented include Emond Hall (known as the gymnasium by the library), Herschel Community Centre in Birds Creek, the Lake St Peter Community Centre and outdoor feil
