With less than two weeks left until the provincial election, the most recent polls suggest that many Quebecers are still making up their minds about which political party they will be voting for.
In speaking with friends and family this week, I found a general lack of excitement about any one party. Rather, people are attempting to figure out which one is least bad. I have brought the elections up with countless friends and some family members only to receive a shrug. Gone are the days of v -

Three and a half years after opening, the McGill University Health Centre superhospital is now carrying out renovations to make its public bathrooms fully accessible to patients and visitors in wheelchairs.
However, the MUHC has only enough funds to upgrade two bathrooms a year. The $1.3-billion superhospital in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce has a total of 72 public bathrooms and, to date, only seven are fully accessible to mobility-challenged individuals.
Dr. Pierre Gfeller, the MUHC’s e -

FNC: Montrealer Will Allen continues his friend's Sharkwater quest
Will Allen was prepared for the backlash: A 26-year-old man, boogie-boarding on the surf, was killed in a shark attack off Cape Cod last Saturday.
It marked the first Cape Cod shark fatality in the last 62 years. No matter, hysteria reached epic proportions in the media and among the public. Beaches were closed. And once again that Peter Benchley quote surfaced: “Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water ….”
Allen, co-owner of Montreal’s popular Burgundy -
In the Habs' room: Montreal holds its own against Panthers' physicality
Pre-season games are designed to be learning experiences and there were some lessons learned Wednesday as the Canadiens dropped a 5-2 decision to the Florida Panthers.
For starters, it should be noted that the Panthers arrived in town with a veteran-laden lineup, which is a bit unusual this early in the pre-season schedule. They played a physical game and coach Claude Julien said he was pleased that the Canadiens didn’t back down.
“I wanted to see a team that competed hard and stuck -
Canadiens' Jonathan Drouin has a new look this season
The Canadiens’ Jonathan Drouin has a new look this season.
The first thing you notice is the long hair flowing out of the back of his helmet, bringing back memories of the 1980s hockey mullets. Drouin’s also lighter, listed at 193 pounds now on his 6-foot frame — 10 pounds less than last season. And during Wednesday night’s 5-2 preseason loss to the Florida Panthers at the Bell Centre, Drouin had an “A” on his sweater as an alternate captain, along with Jeff P -
Sloppy defence, lack of finish prove costly for the Canadiens
The bottom line: The Canadiens gave a valiant effort against a Florida Panthers lineup laden with NHL talent, but their inability to finish proved costly as they dropped a 5-2 decision Wednesday night at the Bell Centre. Montreal managed only one fluke goal before Nikita Scherbak scored late in the game on a perfect feed from Matthew Peca.
Where’s is the defence? The biggest impediment to Carey Price making a comeback this season may be the defence playing in front of him. The Panther -

#ICYMI: CAQ intent on raising toking age, Montreal marathons, and more
In Case You Missed It (#ICYMI) is a daily feature highlighting news in and around Montreal.
The CAQ presented, or rather, reiterated the party’s #cannabis platform Wednesday, saying, if elected, it will raise the minimum toking age to 21, outlaw toking in public, and stand behind owners’ bans in apartment and condominium buildings.
But what about the smoke-filled Sunday Tam-Tam gatherings at the foot of the mountain, you might be asking. It would be up to local police -
Quebec election: Hivon is an indispensable foil for PQ leader Lisée
Minutes before the most important debate of his career, Jean-François Lisée looked down at a list of handwritten instructions.
They read as follows:
“Calm/Zen, Engaged/Invested, Worried for the well being of people, Kind but not flippant, Statesman, Never aggressive, Go!”
If the Parti Québécois leader wasn’t the clear winner of the Sept. 13 debate, he at least got a few licks in. And that, in no small part, is thanks to the cheat-sheet written by dep -
Quebec election: QS not necessarily socialist revolutionary, Massé says
Québec solidaire is “revolutionary, certainly,” but not necessarily socialist revolutionary even though it wants to socialize the economy to make it more equitable, Manon Massé said on Wednesday.
The party co-spokesperson made the declaration in a speech before 200 people assembled by the Chambre de commerce du Montréal métropolitain.
She was responding to a question from the group’s president, Michel Leblanc, who asked if her party is socialist revo -
Quebec election notebook: Some are still debating the English debate
Some are still debating the English debate.
At least four columnists in French-language newspapers on Wednesday focused on whether or not Monday’s English-language televised debate (the first ever in a Quebec election) should have taken place.
In the Journal de Montréal, two writers (Mathieu Bock–Côté and Mario Dumont) suggested the English debate was a mistake that sets a terrible precedent because it put English on the same footing as French.
In Le Devoir, one c -

Stu Cowan: Road to NHL started with ringette for Panthers' Mike Matheson
Mike Matheson’s road to the NHL started as a 3-year-old playing ringette at the Pointe Claire Arena.
On Wednesday night, the 24-year-old was at the Bell Centre playing defence for the Florida Panthers in an exhibition game against the Canadiens as he prepares to enter the first season of an eight-year, US$39-million contract. The Panthers selected the 6-foot-2, 193-pounder in the first round (23rd overall) at the 2012 NHL Draft.
Matheson learned to skate when he was only 2, but Hockey West -
UPDATE: Inuk woman's killer faces sentencing after several delays
Nellie Angutiguluk remained in a relationship with Kwasi Benjamin for more than a year before he killed her even though he had tried to end her life before.
“He tried to kill me. He wanted to kill me,” Angutiguluk told Montreal police Constable Jean-Philippe Tseng-Valiquette on Jan. 4, 2014, when he found her standing completely nude and covered in blood inside the couple’s apartment in Côte-des-Neiges after she had called 911.
Tseng-Valiquette testified on Wednesday at t
