    A 27-year-old man who was shot early Sunday morning on St-Laurent Blvd. is no longer in critical condition.
    Police officers were patrolling the street on foot near des Pins Ave. at about 2 a.m. when they heard gunshots.
    They found shell casings on the ground, then located the victim lying on St-Laurent Blvd., south of des Pins Ave. He had suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body.
    The motive of the shooting remains unknown and investigators have not yet made any arrests.

    When the nomination period for Quebec’s general election came to an end Saturday, 940 candidates had entered the ring.
    This represented an increase of 126 candidates over the province’s last election, which came in 2014.

  • Two dead after car hits electric pole in Eastern Townships

    Two people died after their vehicle hit a live electrical pole in St-Claude, 170 kilometres east of Montreal, on Saturday afternoon.
    The vehicle was traveling downhill on Goshen Road at approximately 4:45 p.m. when the driver lost control of the wheel and hit the pole, the Sûreté du Québec said.
    The pole was severed and ignited. Firefighters and a team from Hydro-Québec were called in, SQ spokesperson Claude Denis said.
