  • Stu Cowan: Vladimir Guerrero will be more than just an Angel in Hall of Fame

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — There will probably be more Angels than Expos caps in the crowd here Sunday afternoon when Vladimir Guerrero is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Don’t be surprised if the number of Dominican Republic flags outnumber them both.
Montreal baseball fans were obviously disappointed when Guerrero decided to wear an Angels cap into the Hall of Fame and there are no ExposNation buses headed to Cooperstown early Sunday morning to watch the induction ceremony. When

  • Lohnes: Shed some light on your home's outdoor spaces

So far this summer, we’ve talked about decorating your backyard with furnishings and accessories, but one of the biggest ways you can impact your outdoor space is with lighting.
We know outdoor lighting provides invaluable security, guidance and safety at entrances and along pathways at night, but not many people consider it as an element of after-dark decorating. Whether purely practical or to highlight special features and create ambiance, outdoor lighting illuminates your life with styl

A pregnant woman says her OBGYN dumped her after she posted a critical message in a closed Facebook group
The case of Courtney Orbin, who is four and a half months pregnant, raises questions about freedom of expression in the age of social media as well the rights of patients and the professional obligations of physicians. Orbin, who is 34, said she was informed during a medical consultation on July 18 by her then-doctor, Fanny Lamb, that
  • Kevin Hart on fire at Bell Centre laugh-fest show

It would be a disservice to say Kevin Hart was shot out of a cannon Friday night at the Bell Centre.  A rocket launcher, more likely. And once propelled, Hart remained at warp speed for nearly 90 minutes.
There should be a picture of Hart under ‘frenetic’ in the dictionary. He will never be accused of phoning it in.
Which goes a long way toward explaining why Hart is the most successful comedian in this universe – and likely others as well.

  • Shelter: Making room for roommates in St-Henri apartment

At first glance, Raphaëlle Bigras Burrogano seems rather intimidating. Whippet thin, with a shaved head, she has a tattoo of famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo on her right arm, one of a number tattoos that adorn her body. Bigras Burrogano is also a devotee of Japanese martial arts that she practises several times a week at a nearby dojo.
But, as the saying goes, looks can be deceptive.

  • Schukov: 10 things to do with an abandoned water tower

I recently conducted a comprehensive survey of what to do with the Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue water tower along Highway 20 which is now slated to be touched up. (I believe the project has been named Lipstick on a Pig.) Anyway, after extensive consultation with one person who shall remain nameless, it was suggested that the town turn it onto a dog run. This excellent and abstract idea has led me into 10 more suggestions:

    Dear American tourists:
Welcome to the Socialist Sissy Republic of Canada, your friendly foe to the north, where we are at (trade) war with you and President Foot-in-the-Mouth.
Many of you have written letters-to-the-editor to the Montreal Gazette and elsewhere, apologizing for your country’s recent indecent behaviour.
Some of you even say you felt nervous before visiting Montreal, wondering how you might be treated. You expected a pie in the face, but instead got a very warm welcome.

  • Montreal's economy is hot. Now how do we get it even hotter?

October 2016, Montreal’s unemployment rate dropped below seven per cent for the first time in almost eight years.
In the almost two years since then, it has not only remained below that level, it has slowly, though not always steadily, continued to decline.
In four of the past eight months, the regional unemployment rate has been below six per cent — something that has never happened since Statistics Canada began recording comparable numbers.
It’s not just that fewer Montrealer

  • Holy cannoli: Taste-testing the Italian treat from four Montreal shops

It’s a sweet memory of my youth: that white cardboard pastry box tied up in ribbon, brought to the table with a bit of fanfare, a pot of espresso not far behind.
It stood for something, that box. A sign that the family had gathered for a reason. A special occasion, for sure.
And then the pleasure as the ribbon was cut and the lid was lifted. Inside, a row of perfect cannoli nestled in paper doilies, thin blankets of powdered sugar overtop.
They came as a dozen. And then there were none.

Hydro-Québec is asking for its lowest rate increase in seven years — a slim 0.8 per cent.
That is the lowest increase requested by the utility since 2011, when Quebec’s Régie de l’énergie not only refused the increase but also forced Hydro-Québec to lower its rates.
Hydro says this year’s increase request, which is less than half the expected inflation rate of 1.7 per cent, will represent an additional 23 cents per month for a five-room apartme
