    On the hottest day of the year, Urgences-santé said its crews were struggling to respond to an increased number of emergency calls in the Montreal area.

    Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Montreal, Laval, Châteauguay, and Longueuil areas just before 5 p.m. Monday.
    According to their website, meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

    The occupants of a moving vehicle were injured late Sunday night when bullets were fired at them from another car.
    The shooting happened on the Highway 20 service road near 1st Ave. in Lachine around 11:30 p.m. Montreal police say the vehicle carrying the gunman passed the other car, and that surveillance cameras captured images that are expected to help in the investigation.

    According to Environment Canada, a heat warning is in effect for the Montreal area. The forecast calls for a daytime high of 34 degrees, a humidex of 44 and a UV index 10 or very high.
