    The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) have found the body of a 17-year-old who drowned in the Rivière Rouge near Huberdeau in the Laurentians.
    The grim discovery was made just after 2 p.m. Sunday.
    The disappearance was reported to police Saturday around midday. Rescuers searched the banks of the river and combed the water in boats.

    The Canadiens have signed Jesper Kotkaniemi, their first-round pick at this year’s NHL Draft, to a three-year contract.
    The Canadiens announced shortly after their evaluation camp wrapped up Sunday in Brossard that Kotkaniemi has agreed to a three-year NHL entry-level deal.   • Man dies in Lac-St-Jean motorcycle accident

    A motorcyclist in his thirties died Sunday morning in Lac-Saint-Jean.
    The man’s body and his vehicle were found by a driver in a ditch on the edge of Maurice-Paradis Blvd in Alma.
    The driver called police around 9 a.m. Sunday.
    The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
    The Sûreté du Québec are investigating.

  • Far-right groups protest refugee arrivals in Montreal

    Far-right protesters gathered Sunday in front of Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s offices at the corner of St-Antoine and Peel Sts. in downtown Montreal.
    About 200 members of the groups La Meute and Storm Alliance demonstrated on St-Antoine St. after exiting from the building at 1000 de La Gauchetière a little after 1 p.m., shouting slogans and uttering wolf howls.
    A large police presence was on hand for the event and St. Antoine Street was closed between Mansfield and Peel Sts.

    A woman in her twenties died in a fire that swept through a bar in St-Gabriel-de-Brandon in the Lanaudière region on Saturday night.
    The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. at the Resto-bar 239.
    Firefighters discovered the unconscious woman in the building and were unable to resuscitate her.
    The cause and the circumstances of the tragedy were not known.

  • Moving day: Most landlords say dwellings left in unacceptable state

    A survey suggests 56 per cent of Quebec landlords have had at least one tenant in the past two years who left a dwelling in an unacceptable state when they moved out.
    The Corporation des propriétaires immobiliers du Québec (CORPIQ) released the survey on  the same weekend as moving day, when between 200,000 and 250,000 Quebecers change addresses.

    The annual maximum premium for Quebec’s public prescription drug insurance plan has gone down by 7.7 per cent from last year.
    The decrease, which took effect on Sunday, will benefit 2.2 million people. The maximum premium went down from $667 to $616.
