Montreal confirms plan to build a park in the Quartier des Spectacles
Montreal is moving ahead with a plan to build a new downtown park.
The location — a parking lot in the Quartier des Spectacles — had been promised to the McCord Museum, which is looking to build a new $150-million home.
Mayor Valérie Plante’s administration decided to build a park there instead to make up for the loss of nearby Jardin Domtar, a green space that Domtar has sold to Groupe Canvar, which plans to build a condo/hotel tower there.

Montreal unemployment rate rises slightly, remains below Toronto
Montreal’s unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points from 5.9 per cent in April to 6.2 per cent in May.

STM maintenance workers cancel Grand Prix weekend strike
The union of 2,400 maintenance workers for the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has cancelled the overtime-hours strike that had been expected to begin Saturday.
The STM said that last-minute talks with the union were successful in stopping the strike, which was to have continued until June 22.

Man suspected of racist comments in Laval pharmacy sought by police
Laval police are looking for a man suspected of making racist remarks to a woman at a pharmacy in Laval.
On May 16 around 9 a.m., the woman was making copies at a Pharmaprix at 960 Curé-Labelle Blvd. in the Chomedey area.

One of the last chances to catch live music in the infamous back room at the Pioneer bar and restaurant in Pointe-Claire Village happens Saturday.
Rock bands Rival, East of Sunday, The Strawberry Chips and TravelMind will share the stage at the storied bar, June 9. Doors for the show open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10.
