As we reflect on the 150th anniversary of Confederation amid a rising global tide of alienation, tribalism and conflict, I can think of no greater way to commemorate than to heed Obama’s advice.

Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique will be swinging at the jazz fest
Alas, the Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique does not have a saxophone stop. No one thought to ask Casavant Frères to install one.
But the splendid behemoth that adorns the Maison symphonique does boast eight trumpet stops, as well as clarinet, oboe, horn and other solo options.
With careful alchemy, Jean-Willy Kunz has no doubt that he can make this redoubtably classical instrument sound perfectly jazzy on Wednesday evening with a quartet of colleagues on trombone (Hélène Lem -

Quebec City restaurant changes name to Chez Muffy, awkwardness ensues
If you want diners to dive into their meals with complete abandon, Chez Muffy may not be the ideal name for your restaurant.
That, however, is the new name for one of Quebec City’s most prestigious spots, located in the Auberge Saint-Antoine Hotel — the restaurant formerly known as Le Panache.
In French, the name is unusual but fine. In English, however, it’s profoundly awkward.
