Surrey Police Service said Tuesday (Jan. 6) that one woman, 23, a passenger who suffered life-threatening injuries in the Jan. 1 collision between a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles, has died.
The crash, which happened near the intersection of 32 Avenue and 194 Street, sent three people to hospital.
SPS said the cause of the collision remains under investigation, but that impairment is believed to be a contributing factor -

Inmate assaulted at Mountain Institution in Agassiz

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) reported that multiple assailants allegedly assaulted an inmate at Mountain Institution on Dec. 31. Staff members evaluated the inmate and he was transported to outside hospital. The inmate has returned t o the institution as of the date of the CSC release on Jan. 6.
The Agassiz RCMP and the CSC are investigating the incident. Multiple assailants were identified and action has been taken. -
Abbotsford firefighters tackled a 7% increase in blazes
via abbynews.com2025 was a busy year for the city’s first responders, with members of the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) once again responding to more than 15,000 calls.
According to the City of Abbotsford, the number of calls into the local fire department rose to 15,479, which is a small increase from the 15,427 calls in 2024.
The portion of these calls that were active fires also increased in 2025, with 620 of the calls being blazes. This is a seven per cent increase from the previous year.

On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the Kelowna RCMP released a list on social media of unusual 911 calls the department received in 2025.

Environment Canada has issued yellow snowfall warnings for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt and Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. A yellow warning is the most common and means the hazardous weather may cause damage and traffic distruptions with moderate impacts.
