  One woman has died after a New Year’s Day crash in Surrey.
  Surrey Police Service said Tuesday (Jan. 6) that one woman, 23, a passenger who suffered life-threatening injuries in the Jan. 1 collision between a tractor-trailer and two passenger vehicles, has died.
  The crash, which happened near the intersection of 32 Avenue and 194 Street, sent three people to hospital.

  Jason McDaniel has been confirmed as ICBC’s president and CEO following an interim term.
  ICBC announced Tuesday (Jan. 6) that McDaniel is now officially in the role. He’d been serving as interim president and CEO since June 2025.

  An inmate at a medium-security institution in Agassiz has been assaulted.
  Correctional Service Canada (CSC) reported that multiple assailants allegedly assaulted an inmate at Mountain Institution on Dec. 31. Staff members evaluated the inmate and he was transported to outside hospital. The inmate has returned t o the institution as of the date of the CSC release on Jan. 6.

  2025 was a busy year for the city’s first responders, with members of the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) once again responding to more than 15,000 calls.

  A pair of snowmobilers stranded near Hope have been safely rescued thanks to them being prepared for outdoor emergencies.
