    As the season draws to a close, an overhauled Aldergrove Ironmen hockey team is doing its best to cope with what GM Ben Crotenko described as “almost the perfect storm” of change.

    Canada’s women’s hockey squad got off to a winning start at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

  • Abbotsford police nab shoplifter in action, also seize drugs and cash

    When officers in Abbotsford caught a woman shoplifting, they found more on her and her partner-in-crime than items stolen from the store.
    Abbotsford Police Department was called out to a theft in progress at a business in the 1300 block of Sumas Way on Thursday, Feb. 5 around 6:20 p.m.
    Plainclothes officers arrived to find a woman “concealing merchandise,” AbbyPD stated in a social media post.

  • Spill contained after coal train derails near Surrey wetland

    Saturday 8:15 a.m.
    A train carrying coal that derailed near Colebrook Road and 125A Street in Surrey on Friday morning does not appear to have spilled coal into any waterways.
    The Ministry of Environment and Parks posted updates Friday evening about the Friday morning incident.

    The Canadian charges against Dances With Wolves actor and self-described medicine man Nathan Chasing Horse remain unresolved despite his recent conviction in the United States.

    Seven players from B.C. are among the 30 women named to represent Canada’s U21 Rugby Team for three test matches in Ireland and England this spring.

    The City of Abbotsford is looking at its lowest proposed property-tax increase in four years.
    The rate recommended by city staff for this year is 4.94 per cent (a 4.44 per cent tax revenue increase plus a .5 per cent infrastructure levy) – a one per cent drop from the tax increase in the previous budget.
    The 2025 budget had a 5.98 per cent increase, while 2024 saw 5.12 per cent.

    A beloved indoor skate park in Hope may shut down if it can’t raise $30,000 by April.
