Diesel spill appears contained in recovery area after crash near northern B.C. waterway

B.C.’s Environment and Parks Ministry is monitoring response activities to a diesel spill from a truck crash near a northern B.C. waterway.The latest report from the ministry’s spills and environmental emergencies says that operations to remove the contaminated soil have expanded to a forested area where the diesel has pooled.
Crews have dug a trench to protect the waterway from migrating diesel, which appears to be contained within the current recovery area, says a July 29 update.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) and Logan Lake Fire Department crews are continuing to battle the Guichon Creek wildfire on Friday, July 31.
Throughout the day, crews are working on containment and building guards, mostly on the northern flank of the blaze using heavy equipment.
While personnel and equipment remains on site overnight, helicopters weren’t able to operate to due poor visibility.As visibility conditions improve, aerial crews will resume operations.

On Friday morning (July 31), BCWS provided an update, stating the blaze is now 152 hectares in size. It remains out-of-control.
