    The provincial government is turning to the courts in the latest attempt to deal with the encampment of unhoused individuals living next to Highway 97 in Penticton.
    The civil suit, filed on Feb. 3 against John Doe, Jane Doe, and between 20 to 25 unnamed other residents of the Fairview Encampment, is currently scheduled to be heard in court starting on March 23.

    The MEI Eagles Grade 8 girls captured gold with a 39-30 win over the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers in Chilliwack on Saturday (Feb. 28).

  • B.C. police watchdog investigating RCMP shooting incident in Kelowna

    An incident involving Kelowna Mounties is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO).
    At around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, RCMP officers stopped a black Mercedes sedan on Snowsell Street North near Glenmore Road.
    There was only one person in the vehicle – the driver – and after communicating with the police, they drove away. During the altercation, an officer was dragged by the car, receiving minor injuries.

    Another BC Winter Games has now come and gone as more than a thousand teens from across the province gathered in the West Kootenays to compete in a wide variety of cold-weather sports.

    Chilliwack RCMP will not be identifying the body of a 68-year-old woman recovered Saturday in a remote area along a forest service road in the Chilliwack River Valley.

    Charges are pending against a 19-year-old driver after she allegedly hit a building and two vehicles lin Abbotsford on Sunday.
    According to a social media post by the Abbotsford Police Department, the driver first collided with a building on Marshall Road.

    For the second consecutive year, the MEI Eagles senior girls basketball team is leaving provincials with a medal.
    The Eagles completed the 2025-26 season with an 84-55 win over the Semiahmoo Thunderbirds in the third place game to earn the 4A bronze medal on Saturday (Feb. 28).

    Langley Township firefighters and BC Ambulance paramedics were on scene for an emergency at the new arena complex at the Langley Events Centre on Monday morning.
    A worker was apparently trapped in an excavation, possibly between foundation walls, sometime before 8:30 a.m.
    Just before 9:30 a.m., firefighters extracted a person from the gap. He appeared to be conscious, and was being attended to by first responders.

  • Snowmobiler killed in avalanche at Kootenay Pass

    A 23-year-old man has died after being caught in an avalanche in the Kootenay Pass on Saturday.
    Creston RCMP said in a statement they were alerted to an SOS activation just after noon when two snowmobilers were injured.
    Both men were extracted by other snowmobilers in the area, but one of them died at the scene.
    RCMP did not identify the victim, and did not provide an update on the other injured man.
