The San Diego Padres have new owners. The Seidler family has officially sold the club, and José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones are now at the helm of the team.
As a reminder, the team's former owner, Peter Seidler, passed away in 2023.
Naturally, people were wondering what the new owners would say about the team's payroll. We know that, in recent years, the Padres haven't been afraid to spend big money despite the small size of their market.
And during their press conference, the new owner

Life imitates George Clooney
via laineygossip.com
The Venice Film Festival kicks off tomorrow which is when we can stop saying that it’s “too early” to talk about award season because with Venice, and then TIFF and Telluride happening next week, many of this year’s contenders will finally be screened; so we’ll have a better sense of how the race will be shaping up.At least three highly anticipated films are premiering in Venice – Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard, starring Kate and Rooney Mara; Martin McD -

The Owens girls were in LA last night for the Hollywood premiere of Practical Magic 2. I’m just focusing here on Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, they are two major stars of this movie and in the industry overall, and what’s sending me today are the comments on social media about how they’ve been interacting during this press tour. Here they are doing an interview with Variety, talking about how Practical Magic is big with the gays. That is a fact. But it’s not just Pract -
Aaron Judge could return to action next week
via dose.ca
The New York Yankees have a comfortable nine-game lead when it comes to the standings for teams qualifying for the playoffs.
But that doesn't change the fact that the Bombers are desperately in need of offensive firepower.
And that could come soon—from captain Aaron Judge, no less. In fact, before last night's (Monday) game against the Los Angeles Angels in California, manager Aaron Boone provided a major update on Judge, stating that “it's possible” he'll be back for the next -
Oliver Kapanen to start—but not to end—the season
via dose.ca
September 1.
School has started, summer vacation is over, the days are getting shorter, and I've pulled out my pants for the evenings that are now without sunlight. Ugh!
But at the same time, September is starting to feel like hockey season.
We love that.
The Canadiens are kind of like our collective balm that brings us together and helps us get through our northern winters.
Pretty much all the Habs players are back in Montreal, and pretty much all of them skated together this morning in Brossar -
Wendy Peffercorn Kelce Swift: The Only Showgirl
via laineygossip.com
Travis Kelce was seen in New York City back in April working on a Tommy Hilfiger campaign at the Plaza Hotel in New York. The campaign has now launched and he is not the main character, the clothes are not the main character, the wedding is not the main character, and not even Travis’s wife is the main character…It’s the puppy. We’ve been talking about the puppy for months and the puppy has finally made her debut, she is the star of this commercial because she was born a -
Is Kaiden Guhle injured? A puzzling scene in Brossard
via dose.ca
Is Kaiden Guhle injured?
It's a fair question, since this morning in Brossard, my colleague Patrick Guillet observed a situation that was quite curious and unusual.
And even a bit concerning.
Here's what happened: the team's three starting goaltenders (Jakub Dobes, Samuel Montembeault, and Jacob Fowler) were on the ice at the CN Complex in Brossard.
On one side of Rink #1 were the three goalies… and on the other were six defensemen: Nosh Dobson, Mike Matheson, Alexandre Carrier, Lane Huts -
Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz: The Dodgers Have Two Problems
via dose.ca
Just last winter, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Kyle Tucker to a four-year, $240 million contract. This came about a month after they did the same with reliever Edwin Diaz, this time on a three-year, $69 million deal.
And to say the least, it hasn't paid off so far.
In fact, Tucker posted a .195 batting average and a .603 OPS in August—the worst month of his career. And this came after he changed his swing out of sheer desperation.
Because there's certainly a sense of desperation in the 2 -
Evander Kane Faces Threats
via dose.ca
Evander Kane has always been in the news for the wrong reasons.
Whether it's through his ex-wife or the teammates who shared a locker room with him, he's never been liked by most of the people around him.
Let's just put it that way.
Just recently, a story from a former teammate caused a stir on social media. Kurtis Gabriel, who played with him, called him out on social media.
The craziest part is seeing the former teammate publicly claim that he wrote to Kane to remind him that he meant absolute -
Intro for September 1, 2026
via laineygossip.com
Dear Gossips,Fan service from an East Asian popstar will always be more involved and … in my opinion… special, maybe even too special if I’m honest. Sometimes I worry that the expectations are too much and where the line is between idol and fandom. But not today, LOL. No one who is ARMY was surprised this morning when Jung Kook livestreamed on his birthday. He is now 29 (30 in Korean age, which is no longer official but still used informally in Korea) and the only member of B -
“Let’s forget about it!”: The explosive behind-the-scenes story of Lane Hutson’s contract
via dose.ca
The Canadiens are often in the news because of their salary structure. That's to be expected.
To get to this point, Marc Bergevin had to offer Nick Suzuki the right contract, and the new front office had to build on that momentum.
It took longer for Cole Caufield than for guys like Ivan Demidov and Juraj Slafkovsky, for example. But today, that doesn't really matter much anymore.
But the case that undoubtedly generated the most buzz was Lane Hutson's.
It quickly became clear that the situation w -
Signature for Jason Maas and Danny Maciocia
via dose.ca
The Montreal Alouettes have decided to prioritize stability in order to continue their progress in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
The Montreal organization
confirmed Tuesday that it has extended the contracts of its head coach, Jason Maas, and its general manager, Danny Maciocia.
These new agreements will allow both executives to continue their work with the team for several more years. Maas will remain with the Alouettes through 2030, while Maciocia will remain in his position through 2031 -
Ketel Marte Booed Upon His Return to the Game
via dose.ca
Ketel Marte was back in action last night in Arizona. He was removed from the injured list, where he had been placed after leaving the team.
We know that many of his teammates are upset by his behavior. And the same goes for the team's fans.
So it was worth wondering how people would welcome the team's former go-to hitter.
And in the end, let's just say he was booed more than he was cheered. And it was a home game.
“There’s more boos than cheers. There’s no doubt.”

Michael Hage on Kirill Marchenko: “The CH won’t falter”
via dose.ca
Will Kirill Marchenko be traded by the Blue Jackets?
In the medium term, I think it's inevitable. I find it hard to believe that all the rumors from the past few months are false and that he'll happily sign a long-term contract with Columbus a year from now.
But I could be wrong.
Of course, that doesn't mean he'll be traded tomorrow morning, since Don Waddell likes to point out that he's “in control” of the situation, given that the player is under contract.
Except that in a year, he -
A minor league team earns its first win after 101 losses
via dose.ca
After more than a decade of setbacks, the Columbia High School football team in Huntsville has finally returned to winning ways.
The team scored
a spectacular 41–14 victory, putting an end to an incredible streak of 101 consecutive losses
.
For the players, this victory means much more than just a score on the board. It marks a historic moment for the program, which had been waiting for a win since October 16, 2015. Back then, the sports and political landscape was very different, and many -
Controversial Post by the British Columbia Lions
via dose.ca
The British Columbia Lions' victory over the Ottawa Rouge et Noir could have capped off an almost perfect night for the Western team.
But a post
shared on social media quickly changed the mood.
On Sunday night, the Lions secured their fifth straight win by dominating Ottawa 45-24 at TD Place. This victory confirms British Columbia's resurgence, after a particularly difficult start to the season.
For their part, the Rouge et Noir are going through an extremely difficult stretch. Still unable to w -
Yevgeni Volokhin: Another Contract in Russia for the Canadiens’ Prospect
via dose.ca
Goaltender Yevgeni Volokhin has just signed a three-year contract extension in the KHL with HK Spartak Moscow.
It's a two-way deal, meaning the goaltender could continue his development in the VHL.Poor Zhenya pic.twitter.com/gP1U4vdGUx
— Adelina (@AdelCucumberg) August 30, 2026Although the Canadiens retain their rights to the Russian prospect, barring a major turnaround, he may have to wait until 2029 to make the leap to North America.
Volokhin performed well last year in the VHL with Khim -
RUMOR | The CH is reportedly interested in signing Arber Xhekaj as a winger
via dose.ca
Although the start of the season is fast approaching, there has still been no announcement regarding the contract signings of Zachary Bolduc and Arber Xhekaj.
Yet these were two signings that seemed like a formality at the start of the summer, and one might wonder what's holding up the negotiations.
In Xhekaj's case specifically, beyond the money, it may be about his role on the team and how he'll be utilized.
Especially since, according to Grant McCagg—who discussed the burly defenseman's -
Long-Term Contract: Munetaka Murakami and the White Sox Are in Talks
via dose.ca
Last winter, we expected Munetaka Murakami to sign a long-term contract.
That said, various circumstances—including teams' doubts about his ability to adapt to North America and the deadline for him to sign—affected his market value.
So he signed a short-term deal ($17 million per year over two years) with the White Sox. And seeing him sign with Chicago was a pleasant surprise, all things considered.
That said, despite an injury that sidelined him for a few weeks, Murakami is perform -
Trevor Letowski: His New Mandate Is Clearer
via dose.ca
Recently, the Canadiens announced that Trevor Letowski would no longer be behind the Habs' bench for the upcoming season.
As you're no doubt aware by now, Derek Lalonde, the former Red Wings coach, has been tapped to replace him moving forward.
We'll see if that helps.
It's not clear exactly how much the Montreal Canadiens wanted to make a change behind the bench. But they were in a position to do so this summer.
That said, they clearly didn't want to let the Ontarian leave the organization.

Bill Guerin doesn’t even know what Quinn Hughes wants
via dose.ca
Today, Bill Guerin gave an interview on the Chad Hartman Show. And it's got people talking.
After all, right now, the Wild's GM is under scrutiny for how he'll handle the Quinn Hughes situation and his potential contract extension.
For many Wild fans, he has no room for error.
And there's currently a quote from the Minnesota executive that's causing quite a stir. We're talking about the one where he was asked to compare his player's situation to that of Cale Makar, who recently signed the bigges -
Otto Lopez Leaves His Mark on Marlins History
via dose.ca
Quebec native Otto Lopez is truly having a stellar season. His impressive performance has made him the talk of the baseball world. It's no surprise he received an All-Star Game invitation—he even recorded a hit there while the rest of his All-Star teammates came up empty.
After a brief stint with the Toronto Blue Jays organization during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Lopez seems to have truly found his niche under the hot Florida sun. And it may be precisely that blazing sun that's allowing h -
Bolduc to be paid soon, Xhekaj to be traded soon?
via dose.ca
NHL hockey is just around the corner, and the regulars are starting to come back.
BPM Sports was actually on the air with its regular programming today. It's coming soon to RDS and TVA Sports, too.
Eric Engels, who took several weeks of vacation over the summer, has been back on the air for a few hours now. He also wrote an interesting piece on Sportsnet.ca, in which he analyzes the respective contract situations of Zachary Bolduc and Arber Xhekaj. Keep in mind that both players are still restri -

Remember, the Met Gala is a fundraising event in support of the Costume Institute – the exhibit is supposed to be the main character, even though the party often overshadows the purpose.Big news today – John Galliano has withdrawn from the exhibit with a statem -

Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama recently said the quiet part out loud as she reflected on being an empty-nester, now that daughters Malia, 28, and Sasha, 25, are out in the world, living on their own. Luis Robert Jr. claimed off waivers by the Orioles
via dose.ca

And now the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to take on the player's contract for the final month of the -

When the major media outlets start covering it again, it means hockey season is just around the corner.
Those outlets would have loved to report on a big-name signing by the Habs this summer, but in the end, it never happened.
In fact, Mathias Brunet's first article of the 2026–2027 season in La Presse focused on Kent Hughes's “inaction.”Free Puck | The Habs didn't want to overpayhttps://t.co/8t5YanKfZ4
